FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
For 93 years, the Peacock Alley has been part of this great community.
It has been the place for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, first dates, proms, business meetings, celebrations, and everyday moments shared with family and friends. Through generations, the Peacock Alley has remained a constant in downtown Bismarck — a place where people came together to celebrate life.
We are only the fourth family to own the Peacock Alley, a responsibility we have never taken lightly. Our hope was to simply steward this historic place for a season, and someday pass it along to another family who would continue its story.
Recently, we learned that our lease would not be renewed and that this space would no longer be available to us. We were shocked and deeply saddened by the news.
When we shared this with our family and staff, we knew one thing immediately: as North Dakota’s oldest restaurant and bar, the Peacock Alley deserved a proper goodbye, and so did this community.
In the midst of this difficult moment, something remarkable happened.
We told our staff that we hoped to remain open through mid-June, but that we understood each person would need to make the best decision for themselves and their families. We gave them 72 hours to decide.
Every single member of our staff chose to stay through the end.
That decision humbled us more than we can express. The Peacock Alley has never just been a building — it is the people who have worked here, celebrated here, and walked through these doors over the last 93 years who made it what it is.
Our final day in this location will be Saturday, June 13.
Over the next four weeks, we hope the community will come in, share stories, raise a glass, and help us celebrate everything the Peacock Alley has meant to Bismarck for nearly a century.
Since this news became public, we have received an overwhelming amount of encouragement from customers, friends, and staff asking us to continue in a new location. We have prayed, listened, and had many conversations about what comes next.
Because of that support, we have decided to actively seek a new home for the Peacock Alley.
At the time of writing this, we have not yet found that place, but we will continue searching for as long as possible.
So for now, we do not know whether this is goodbye or simply see you later.
Thank you for 93 years of memories, support, and love.
